Privacy Policy

MakerMap (makermap.lol) puts makers who introduced themselves on X on one map, shows what they build, and suggests who they should meet. This policy explains what information we hold about you, where it comes from, what we do with it, and how to have it changed or removed.

1. Who we are

MakerMap is run by Pyrean B.V., registered in the Netherlands (KvK 66494834), Keizersgracht 391-A, 1016 EJ Amsterdam. Pyrean B.V. is the controller of your personal data for the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Contact: a direct message to @verbove on X.

2. What we collect

From public posts and profiles on X

If you posted an introduction on X (for example as part of the "I'm 29, solo founder…" intro trend), we may have collected, through a third-party data provider:

• your handle, display name and profile picture;
• your intro post: its text, date and public numbers (replies, likes, reposts, views);
• your public X profile: bio, location field, website field, pinned post and follower count;
• who replied to or interacted with your intro publicly, which we use to show makers you have already met;
• products and websites linked from your bio or pinned post, and the public title, description and icon of those web pages.

When you claim your profile or sign up

• Log in with X. X tells us your X account ID, handle, name and profile picture. We ask X only for permission to read your profile and posts (users.read, tweet.read). We never receive your password and we don't store your X access tokens.
• Your claim post. The public post you make to claim your profile, and a one-time code in its link that ties the post to your sign-up.
• What you tell us. Where you're based, how you work, your interests and skills, who you want to meet, links to your other social profiles, your products, and, only if you choose, your monthly revenue (shown publicly as "stated by the maker").
• Your email, only if you choose to give it, so we can tell you when makers join near you and when something new happens. You can remove it any time on your profile page.
• An intro you paste in, if you import an intro post that we missed.

When you buy a paid pin or a sponsor boat

• Payment. Stripe handles the payment. We never see or store your card. Stripe tells us your email, that you paid, and IDs we need to manage your subscription and refunds.
• Your boat. The website you enter, the name and line you type, the colour, and the icon we fetch from that website. For a profile boat: your handle, name, city and a copy of your X profile picture. We also note when you agreed to the terms.
• Checks. To keep boats safe, we look up how old the website's domain is and may check it with Google Safe Browsing.
• Emails about your boat, such as your private boat link, that it's live, or that you've been outbid. These are part of the service, not marketing.

To keep your profile and points current (verified makers)

• Once a day we read your public X profile to follow your location field (so your pin moves when you do), to note your follower count, and to see whether your bio links to MakerMap.
• We look for your public posts that link to makermap.lol, and read their public numbers, to count your points.
• If you add our badge to a website, we fetch that website's page once a day to check the badge is there. When the badge image loads on a site, we note that site's domain (not who is visiting it).
• If someone lands on your profile link and then claims their own profile, we note that you referred them.

When you visit the site

• Analytics. We use DataFast to count visits, see where visitors come from and which features get used. DataFast uses a cookie to recognise returning visitors. We send it events such as "opened a profile" or "started a claim", sometimes with a handle, never your email.
• Session recordings. We use PostHog (EU servers) to record how pages are used: clicks, scrolling and page changes, so we can find and fix what breaks. Anything you type into a form is masked and never recorded.
• Server logs. Our hosting provider keeps standard request logs (such as IP address, browser and time) to run and secure the site.

3. How we use it, and why we're allowed to

4. Automated processing

We use Jev, a classifier by TypeSafe that we access through OpenRouter, to read public intros and profiles. It answers set questions, such as how someone mainly works, what space they're in, who they say they want to meet, whether their location is a real place, and whether they say they are under 18. It also scores how well two makers fit, to order match suggestions. These suggestions only decide what we show on the map; they have no legal or similarly significant effect on you. If something we say about you is wrong, you can correct it on your profile page, or ask us to.

5. What is public

Your profile on MakerMap is public: your name, handle, picture, city or country pin, intro, products, points, rank, the makers you've met, and your suggested matches. Your email is never public. We show locations at city level at most, never an address.

6. Who we share it with

We don't sell your data and we don't share it with advertisers. We use these service providers to run MakerMap:

• Vercel: hosting, databases and file storage.
• DataFast: website analytics.
• PostHog (EU): session recordings.
• OpenRouter and TypeSafe (Jev): automated reading of public intros and profiles.
• TikHub: a data provider we use to read public X posts and profiles.
• X: for "Log in with X", and when you choose to post on X from MakerMap.
• Stripe: payments for paid pins and sponsor boats.
• Resend: sending our emails.

Some of these providers are located outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Where that happens, the transfer relies on safeguards such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

7. How long we keep it

• Your profile stays on the map until you ask us to remove it, or until we stop running MakerMap.
• A post found during sign-up but not yet claimed is kept for 7 days.
• Login sessions last 30 days.
• Payment and boat records are kept as long as tax and accounting law requires (in the Netherlands, 7 years).
• When we remove your profile, we delete it from the map, our match and profile data, and our stored copies of your X profile. Backups are overwritten in the normal course.

8. Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask us to:

• show you the data we hold about you (access) and give you a copy (portability);
• correct it;
• delete it, including removing your profile from the map;
• stop or limit using it, including objecting to being on the map at all.

DM @verbove. We'll answer within one month. You can also complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, or the authority where you live.

9. Cookies and local storage

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site still works without the analytics cookies; without the login cookies you can't log in.

10. Children

MakerMap is for makers aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly show anyone under 18: intros that say or clearly imply the maker is under 18 are left off the map, and you can't claim a profile if you're under 18. If you think someone under 18 is on the map, tell us and we'll remove them.

11. Security

We keep data with established hosting providers, use HTTPS everywhere, sign login sessions, and limit who can access stored data. No system is perfectly secure, so we keep only what we need.

12. Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update the date at the top and say so on the site. The latest version always lives at makermap.lol/privacy.
